518 Carpinteria Salt Marsh Birding Adventure
Designed for those driving south from the festival, enjoy a stopover at the Carpinteria Salt Marsh. Known as El Estero, the marsh is a rare salt wetland in Southern California. Winter birding is known for an abundance of waterfowl, raptors, and shorebirds, including species like the Northern Pintail, Blue- and Green-winged Teal, Yellow and Black Crowned night herons, Gadwall, and the Belding's Savannah Sparrow. You can also expect to see resident and migratory birds of prey like Ospreys and White-tailed Kites, and various waders such as the Great Blue Heron.
Directions: Located near the beach Carpinteria Salt Marsh Park has plenty of parking and restrooms located at the southern end of Ash Lane in Carpinteria. Exit off Highway 101 at Linden Ave, take all the way to the beach and take a right at Sandy Lane and follow until it ends at Ash Lane and park anywhere along Ash Lane. We will meet at the south end of Ash Lane.
