Sam Fitton
Sam Fitton started birding early in life growing up on a farm in southwestern Ohio. His desire to know the local birds led to missed chores but plenty of support from his family. Sam quickly got a dream job as field ornithologist in Wyoming, and for 20 years worked primarily on birds for agencies in Wyoming and California (including Carrizo Plain). He is looking forward to conducting his 25th straight year for the Carrizo Plain Breeding Bird Survey next May. On the MBWBF trip he will help birders find some specialty birds in one of the most beautiful and interesting environments in California. Sam and family are now back home in Ohio, where he is assisting banding studies (saw-whets and passerines), restoring properties, assisting comprehensive planning efforts, working with a local land trust, and serving on several non-profit boards. A trip to Carrizo is a vacation for him too!
