Here are some tips on how to choose which events to sign up for:
  1. Consider your interests. What types of birds are you most interested in seeing? What habitats do you enjoy birding in? Are there any specific birdwatching techniques you're interested in learning more about? Once you know what you're most interested in, you can start to narrow down the list of events that are relevant to you.
  2. Read the event descriptions carefully. A detailed schedule of events is available on the event schedule page (day planner). Take some time to read the descriptions of each event to see what birds you're likely to see, what the difficulty level is, and what kind of gear you'll need.
  3. Talk to other birders. If you know any other birders who have attended the festival in the past, ask them for their recommendations. They can tell you which events were their favorites, which events were most productive, and which events to avoid.
  4. Don't be afraid to mix things up. If you're not sure which events to choose, try to choose a variety of different types of events. This will give you a chance to experience different birding habitats and techniques. You may also be surprised at which events you enjoy the most.
  5. Pay Special Attention to "Meeting Venue". Each trip has two "venues" listed, the MEETING venue and the EVENT venue. The EVENT venue is where the trip takes place. The MEETING venue is where you should meet your group. In some cases, the two venues are the same. Do not go to the EVENT venue if the MEETING venue is different.
