Cruz Phillips Cruz Phillips has been leading birding trips on her family ranch since 1985. She has been an avid birder since childhood, growing up in San Diego where her father was director of the Natural History Museum. She received a master's degree in Evolutionary Biology from the University of Michigan. Cruz has established and maintained habitat and feeders at the family ranch for over 30 years, building a ranch list of over 200 species.
