Ann Hepenstal Ann Hepenstal grew up in a "bird-aware household" and became an avid birder when her oldest child became bird-obsessed at age 5. A member of the Santa Clara Valley Audubon Society, Ann chairs their Outreach Committee, writes for the Avocet newsletter, volunteers as a field trip leader, serves as a Sector Leader on 2 Christmas Bird Counts, and helps organizes the teams for the Palo Alto Summer and Christmas counts. Currently, she leads the SCVAS "Women Walk the Wild" (by women, for women) field trips. Ann enjoys birding along the Bayshore, on visits to Michigan, and in her backyard and neighborhood. Her favorite bird is the Gadwall, Bewick's Wren, or Bufflehead--depending on which she sees at the moment.
