224 Birding Estero Bluffs
Join Jim Bland for intermediate birding on a walk of about 2 miles at the north end of Estero Bluffs, where we will visit a wide array of coastal habitats, including coastal bluffs, rocky shoreline, sandy beach, coastal lagoon, and a freshwater pond. If trail conditions permit, we will walk northward along the bluff, cross a sandy beach to a lagoon at the mouth of Villa Creek, then proceed to a fresh water pond adjacent to the lagoon. If trails north of the bluff are not passable due to recent rain, we will proceed south along the bluffs toward Cayucos. Likely species include a variety of turnstones, sandpipers, gulls, cormorants, loons, diving ducks (possibly a Harlequin), dabbling ducks, plovers (Snowy and Semipalmated), birds of prey (Northern Harrier, Golden Eagle), sparrows, phoebes, and meadowlarks. 20 miles round trip by personal vehicle. Moderate. Meets at Morro Bay Comm. Center, 1001 Kennedy Way, Morro Bay.
