252 The Long-billed Curlew: Tracking a Species of Conservation Need
The Long-billed Curlew is North America's largest shorebird. Research has shown that Long-billed Curlew populations of southwestern Idaho are declining at an alarming rate placing them on Idaho's "Species of Greatest Conservation Need" list. With the use of satellite transmitter technology, the Intermountain Bird Observatory (IBO) is gaining valuable data as to why. Join research biologist Heather Hayes for an engaging presentation on the work conducted by the IBO. You will also learn about "Dozer", a radio-equipped curlew the IBO has been tracking for the past 5 years from his mountain breeding territory of Idaho to his ocean-side wintering grounds of Morro Bay, California. Field trips have been scheduled to search for "Dozer". Meets at St. Timothy's Church, 962 Piney Way, Morro Bay.
