256 Bats of California's Central Coast
California's Central Coast hosts 19 species of bats. Learn the many ways that bats benefit natural and human communities alike, but especially locally in support of sustainable agriculture as natural pest control agents. Join Bill Haas, Director, Central Coast Bat Survey, to learn how bat biologists (chiropterologists) study bats to distinguish between species, determine where they roost, how they find and capture their prey and the many specializations they possess that let them fly with aplomb on even the darkest of nights. Bill will highlight the technology he uses to detect and identify bats including ultrasonic detection and infrared videography. Odds are, after this presentation, you will want to become a bat watcher in your own neighborhood. Join Bill at the Morro Bay Comm. Center, 1001 Kennedy Way, Morro Bay. Lounge.
