The seemingly simple challenge of identifying a bird actually involves a complex multi-level analysis of probability and pattern recognition. In this workshop David will break down some of the fundamental skills, and frequent pitfalls, that are common to all bird identification scenarios. Using live drawing and slides, he will cover topics like understanding bird topography, the patterns of variation in birds, and the psychology of perception. The goal is to strengthen your foundation of bird identification knowledge, to increase your understanding of the patterns, and to make it easier to identify whatever bird you see next.
