450 The Topography of Bird Sounds
Every field guide goes into depth labeling the "topography of a bird", but they have not done so with sounds until recently with the Peterson Field Guide to Bird Sounds of Eastern (and Western) North America by Nathan Pieplow. Today, with easy access to recorders and spectrogram software, birders can now delve deeper into this fascinating topic using this field guide, other online resources, and apps.
In this presentation Tom Graves will help you to learn how to listen for, and to describe the pitch patterns and tone qualities of individual notes, and how to describe collections of notes in a way that will help identify species and to increase your enjoyment of the topography of bird sounds. Meet at the Inn at Morro Bay, 60 State Park Road, Morro Bay. Cayucos Room.
